Gethsemane - Church of all nations
Holy land Gift Pack- Jordan River Water , Jerusalem's Stones and Galilee Olive Oil
Gethsemane from Gat + Shemanim, means "Olive Oil Press". It is the name of natural grotto next to the "Tomb of Mary" and her Assumption.
Jesus often visited the grotto and it was here the he was betrayed and arrested. In time, however, the entire area at the foot of Mt. of olives was called Gathsemane.
The Garden of Olives - located above and to the right of the Grotto of Gethsemane (to the left of the Basillica, facing the facade) and enclosed by a fence. Here there are eight olive trees hold by tradition to be the silent witnesses of Jesus prayer and suffering the evening before his crucifixion.
The Church of All Nations
On the edge of the garden stands the Church of All Nations (The Basilica of the Agony) built around the rock where Jesus prayed on that fateful night. The church was designed by Antonio Berluzzi and built in 1924 with funds from Christian communities across the globe – hence the name. The church is recognizable by its stunning gold and colored tympanum mosaic above the entrance depicting Jesus, his followers and disciples. Part of an earlier Byzantine church that stood here in the 4th century has been incorporated into the structure of the church. In the church you can see part of the Byzantine mosaic floor and the rock where Jesus prayed.
These elements represent a deep spiritual value to the Christians world wide. The Olive Oil represent the anointing of the sick in many verses (Mark 6 :13) The Earth from Bethlehem carries spiritual value of the Holy Land ( Mark 4: 8) Water of the Jordan water carries spiritual values of baptism (1 Corinthians : 12 :13)
