The Story Behind Shofars

By mony somech / April 14, 2020

“In The Place Where You Hear The Sound Of The Shofar, Rally To Us There. Our God Will Fight For Us.” (Nehemiah 4:20)

Shofar, also spelled shophar, plural shofroth, shophroth, or shofrot, ritual musical instrument, made from the horn of a ram or other animal, used on important Jewish public and religious occasions. In biblical times the shofar sounded the Sabbath, announced the New Moon, and proclaimed the anointing of a new king

It is an irreplaceable part of the Jewish legacy: the sound celebrates a new year and even high holidays. But what is a Shofar? What is it made of? Why do we use it? And what are the different beliefs surrounding this ancient instrument? How to maintain the shofar over the years?

The Shofar is made out of animal horns. It has been used for centuries by different communities, religions, and cultures. They’re utilized for countless reasons, like signals, celebrations, alarms, assemblies, herding animals, and more – allowing them to represent unity and spirituality among people worldwide. Unlike many others, though, the Jewish traditions’ and spiritual rituals’ usage of animal horns are inspiring, emotional, and truly unique.

In Judaism, it is a well-respected instrument bearing a unique, deep sound with values originating from the beginning of time. Powerful and can facilitate a personal bond to their owner; It almost seems like everyone has a “shofar story.” Some shofars are even passed as an heirloom from generation to generation, representing great family values handed over time.

What is a Shofar?

It is a musical instrument made of a ram, a cod or another animal horn and blown like a trumpet. In the Jewish tradition, blowing is a mitzvah. To be considered a device, a mouthpiece must be in its natural, naturally hollow shape. The sound is produced by human breathing which symbolizes the original breathing that God breathes into human beings.
It is a sacred vessel deeply ingrained in the culture of the Jewish people, in its traditions and rituals. It symbolizes the past and history of the Jewish people and symbolizes the future and redemption of the Jewish people. This instrument produces unique sounds that fill the heart and open the mind to true feelings of remorse, empathy and soul searching. The glorious shofar is not just an essence; It should be a symbol in every home and will be proudly displayed as a heritage.

If you want to reconnect with God and experience the glorious sounds of the trumpet, these trumpets will help you connect with God and strengthen your spiritual faith in the Holy Land.

Sources and citation mentioning the shofar

It was first mentioned in the Bible on the day the Jewish people received the Bible; The verse is found in Exodus 19, 19, 15, and 19: "Then the shofar was heard from heaven between thunder and lightning; Moses spoke, and God answered him aloud." In fact, the Bible mentions the shofar 72 times and is considered so important. High, so that no one but the priests and the Levites blew it up.

Sounds Sounds during many historical events in the Bible: proclaiming a new moon, calling different species of animals and plants to the ark, marking a new year, proclaiming salvation and more.

It has been said that the Israeli people have even won wars by agreeing to the land of Israel with unconventional weapons. The item was used to gather the people, call the soldiers into battle, and announce a conversation of a new king. To this day, the Israeli people make it known by swearing in a new president as a non-religious tradition.

The different meanings of sound have been improved

The most well-known meaning of sound is a call for us to look inward and repent of our sins. When it's blown up, it's time to ponder and apologize. Jewish tradition also holds that the sounds of the shofar will announce the coming of the Messiah.

It produces four sounds: takia, fractions, cheers and big takia. It can produce sobbing and sustained sounds in pre-set sequences that change according to the ceremony and actually resonate like a crying voice.

When and where is the shofar used?

The most common place to hear is in a synagogue: it will be heard during the high holidays, every day during Elul (the Hebrew month preceding Rosh Hashanah), and on Yom Kippur. If you live near a large Jewish community, you may hear the shofar blown in public places.

It is said that the shofar is inflated on Rosh Hashanah to mark the beginning of a new year, and to mark the sentence of the past year, judging good deeds versus sins. Distribute it to call for a spiritual awakening on Rosh Hashanah, and yet on Yom Kippur the car is blown away as a call of repentance
