Eine der besten christlichen Stätten in Galiläa ist Nazareth; Die Bibel erzählt uns, wie Maria und Josef hier entstanden sind und wie Jesus seine Kindheit mit seiner Familie in Nazareth verbracht hat. Hier erschien Maria der Engel Gabriel und verkündete ihr die Nachricht von ihrer zukünftigen göttlichen Schwangerschaft und dem Sohn, der geboren werden würde. Die Verkündigungskirche in Nazareth markiert den traditionellen Ort dieses biblischen Ereignisses und wurde über der Grotte errichtet, von der angenommen wird, dass sie Marias Zuhause war. Die Verkündigungskirche ist eine zweistöckige Basilika aus dem Jahr 1969 mit modernem Design. Die Kirche hat eine hohe Kuppel in Form einer umgedrehten Lilie, die Marias Reinheit symbolisiert. Eines der herausragendsten Merkmale der Kirche ist die Sammlung von Darstellungen der Jungfrau Maria, die in einer Vielzahl von Traditionen aus der ganzen Welt geschaffen wurden.
Diese Elemente repräsentieren einen tiefen spirituellen Wert für die Christen weltweit. Das Olivenöl stellen die Krankensalbung in vielen Versen dar (Markus 6:13).
